Common
questions
A few things people often ask before getting started. If your question isn’t here, you’re welcome to get in touch.
Who does Paul work with?
Paul works with adults, young people aged 16 and over, and couples. He offers warm, practical, evidence-based therapy for people from all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life.
What can Paul help with?
Paul has extensive experience supporting anxiety and worry, depression and low mood, trauma and post-traumatic stress, grief and loss, stress and burnout, emotional regulation difficulties, adjustment and change, and relationship difficulties, among other concerns. You can see the full list on the Services page.
What therapeutic approaches does Paul use?
Paul draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, tailored to what each person needs — including CBT (and CBT-I for sleep), DBT, ACT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. There’s more detail on the Services page.
Do you offer telehealth or online sessions?
Yes. Paul offers both face-to-face sessions in Rose Park, Adelaide, and telehealth (online) sessions for accessibility — so you can meet in whichever way suits you best.
How long is a session?
A standard consultation runs for 50 minutes.
Do I need a referral, and can I claim Medicare?
You don’t need a referral to see Paul privately. To claim a Medicare rebate, however, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, who can refer you for a set number of subsidised sessions. Private health fund rebates may also apply, depending on your level of cover. [PLACEHOLDER: confirm current number of rebated sessions and rebate amount.]
What are your fees?
Your session fee is confirmed with you before booking. [PLACEHOLDER: add the standard 50-minute consultation fee.] Medicare and private health rebates may reduce your out-of-pocket cost (see the question above).
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance to talk through what’s bringing you in, at your own pace. Paul’s approach is collaborative, transparent, and goal-oriented — together you’ll begin to make sense of what’s going on and what you’d like to work toward. [PLACEHOLDER: add any intake forms or paperwork to complete beforehand.]
What’s your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to change or cancel an appointment. Cancellations with 24–48 hours’ notice may attract a 50% fee, and less than 24 hours’ notice (or a missed appointment) the full fee — these sessions can’t easily be filled at short notice. Full details are on the Cancellation Policy page.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. There are some well-established legal limits — for example where there’s a serious risk to your safety or someone else’s, where the law compels disclosure, or where mandatory reporting applies. These are explained with you at the outset. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
